Bryan Smith

Director/Producer/Cinematography/Athlete

Bryan Smith is an adventure filmmaker and expedition kayaker based out of Squamish, British Columbia. His involvement in adventure film grew out of a passion for exploring wild places by kayak.  He built an impressive set of credentials on the sea through the British Canoe Union, co-founded Body Boat Blade International sea kayaking school and has lead several first descents on steep, difficult rivers in India, Peru and across North America.  His first documentary 49 Megawatts was acclaimed both for its amazing kayaking footage and for exposing the controversy over British Columbia’s river based energy production.  It was a finalist at Toronto’s Planet in Focus Film Festival and won “best environmental film” at the 2008 Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival.  He then went on to direct and produce the award winning sea kayaking films Pacific Horizons and Eastern Horizons.  His photographs, stories and adventures have appeared in Men’s Journal, Canoe and Kayak, Kayak Session and Outside Magazine.  Currently Bryan has been working on assignment from National Geographic shooting a variety of adventure sports and has just launched a new 22 episode web TV series called The Season.  At 33 Smith, assisted by his wife Lise-Anne, is in the early stages of what promises to be a promising filmmaking career.
